Laser Therapy for Soft-Tissue Injury Healing
Low Level Laser Therapy uses a safe penetrating light to stimulate and encourage cellular healing. Chiropractors, physiotherapists, sports medicine doctors, vetrenarians and professional sports teams use various classes of laser therapy to help reduce pain and promote healing.
Laser Therapy may reduce pain related to inflammation by lowering levels of prostaglandin E2, prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2, interleukin 1-beta, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, the cellular influx of neutrophil granulocytes, oxidative stress, edema, and bleeding. It may also stimulate mitochondrion to increase the production of adenosine triphosphate resulting in an increase in reactive oxygen species.
Laser Therapy is used to treat conditions such as:
- musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries
- tendonitis, tedinosis or tendinopathy including rotator cuff injuries
- muscle strains and spasms
- ligament sprains such as an ankle or knee sprain
- radiculopathies - like arm pain or sciatica
- ...and many other soft-tissue injuries
Is Laser Therapy Safe for Me?
Laser treatments are extremely safe when applied by a trained health professional. There is no dangerous ultraviolet light immited from the laser. Laser treatment is safe to deliver directly over metal implants, fractures, over broken skin, and on acute injuries. Laser treatments should never be given directly over the eye or the thyroid gland.
